Enrollment Information Choice What we offer Our progress Accomplishments How we are different How to qualify	Accomplishments Promise Academy has received several individual and school grants that have helped enhance our educational programming for students including a grant that ran our summer camp in 2006. Promise Academy has an active Parent Teacher Organization who support academic programs and provide educational programming for parents. Our PTO officers are: Starlette Vaughn; President, Marilyn Thomas, Vice-President; Dominique Carpenter, Secretary; DeVonne Knowles, acting Treasurer. Our first kindergarten class made approximately 18 months growth in 10 months of instruction during their kindergarten year. When taking their first computerized assessment as first graders the next fall, 50% of the students were considered proficient in math and language arts. The other 50% of the students were advanced in language arts and 48% of the students were advanced in mathematics. Our first fund raiser at Promise Academy involved collecting pennies for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Students were able to donate $1,000. As a service learning project, students at Promise Academy read more than 100 books so that Scholastic could donate books to libraries that were rebuilding following Katrina. Promise Academy has been fortunate to offer several parent training seminars including anger management and behavior intervention for families.
